I am an experienced leader and aspire to a career as a clinician-executive. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to serve in high-level leadership positions to support the communities I have lived and learned in.
President, Duke University Graduate and Professional Student Government (2020-2021)
Represented 8500+ graduate/professional students at Duke during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Partnered closely with senior university leadership to achieve a historically productive tenure with long-lasting impact on graduate/professional student life at Duke. Directly managed a team of 20 and oversaw a budget of >$250,000.
- Initiated the first full-scope re-envisioning of graduate/professional student governance structures since the 1980s to provide better mechanisms for student engagement in administration and governance, resulting in complete organizational re-design and more than $100,000 annual funding increase and hiring of 2 full-time positions to support graduate/professional student life.
- Led the graduate/professional student response to COVID-19. Developed the first protocol to safely hold in-person events which was later adopted as University-wide policy. Worked directly with senior leadership to devise the contact tracing and testing system that allowed Duke to return to in-person operations safely, later cited as a model structure in national educational circles.
- Successfully advocated for several key policy victories, including dental insurance for graduate/professional students, investment to counteract graduate/professional food insecurity, and University investment in graduate/professional student housing
- Represented Duke in national policy advocacy
Duke University Board of Trustees, Student Representative (2020-2023)
Served as an appointed representative on several Duke University Board of Trustees committees. Demonstrated fiduciary responsibility to Duke University and provided a crucial student perspective.
- Resources Committee: served as a fiduciary to oversee the financial, physical, and human resources of the University including more than 45,000 employees, >8,000 acres of facilities, and $7.7 billion in operating expenditures.
- Graduate and Professional Education and Research Committee: Delivered quarterly updates to the Board on graduate/professional student affairs and worked directly with trustee chair and Duke Vice Provost for Interdisciplinary Studies to develop committee agendas.
- Strategic Education Program: Student participant in a year-long Duke Board of Trustees effort to develop strategies for the long-term future of the Duke University enterprise, including branding, vision, and competitive position in the higher education market
